Invictus Games SpokeGuards

The Invictus Games is an international adaptive multisport event created by Prince Harry, in which wounded, injured or sick armed services personnel and their associated veterans take part in sports, including wheelchair basketball, sitting volleyball, indoor rowing and wheelchair archery.

Prince Harry quoted “These Games have shone a spotlight on the ‘unconquerable’ character of service men and women and their families and their ‘Invictus’ spirit. These Games have been about seeing guys sprinting for the finish line and then turning round to clap the last man in. They have been about teammates choosing to cross the line together, not wanting to come second, but not wanting the other guys to either. These Games have shown the very best of the human spirit.”

SpokeGuards support a number of charities and good causes, both local and national. Occasionally, a request is received on a more international basis, as was the case with David Hubber. David was competing in the first ever Invictus Games in held London in 2014 in wheelchair archery.

David contacted SpokeGuards asking for support for him to enter the Invictus Games with a set of personalised spoke guards. David is a graphic designer and designed his own covers, which had am image of a wheelchair archer and ‘I am the Captain of my Soul’ on one side and ‘I am the Master of my Fate’ on the other side. David was a corporal in the Royal Logistics Corps and had an accident in 2002 which made him a wheelchair user. He also emerged from the Invictus Games with two gold medals, one in the Individual Recurve Open, in which Great Britain won gold, silver and bronze.

Since 2014, David has been an ambassador for Help for Heroes
